Who gave me the real shine on....aright CH: Cuttin' out with strangers Out the back screen door You wanted me to grease the hinge So you could sneak some more C'mon girl what's yr bag? You can be the judge Your high heels thru my heart Cause I'm tuff enough -- The meal's gone cold Just like our love The hour is gettin' late You burned the stove Left it still on The dog licks at the plate Well ain't it swell To have a gal Who carries on like you.. For me to stick to loyalty Well maybe I'M the stooge! {CH:} Imagine my surprise To find you're someone's wife You strung along this hepcat Leading a double life His fist my face oh I've been framed By your cruel ways But I'll have the final laugh When the Devil gets his taste Hey! about

Rules schmules. This time around, 'restrictions' need not apply.
There were several distinctions present in the last installment of Dessert Sesh:

~Random configurations of players/friends...no set band
~Improvised (never pre-rehearsed) material
~Some edits allowed but only working with what was there..no overdubs (all recorded to a SINGLE stereo track)
~Trippy yet minimalist approach (equip never TOO fancy, never too many players at once etc.)
~Complete lack of vocals (unless you count the occasional silly banter between the music etc.)
~Usually full to the brim (at least 80ish mins worth of material). Vol. 0 of the Dessert Sessions is bigger than the first four Desert Sessions which it parodies!
~'Secret' songs ! Usually a joke track among these.

All of that is still very much present in this here Volume 1, though overdubs are 'ok now'. Also, vocals find their way in a bit more. Still, overall the spirit remains almost the same.

There is a Native American proverb that says "The first thing most people say when they die is: 'Why was I so serious?' Which is creepily and awesomely similar to Batman's Joker and his famous line 'Why so serious?'
I could link that thought to delving into some essay about the importance of the Sacred Trickster archetype, but suffice to say we all need to lighten the hell up!
Part of that involves making these songs that will never win us a Grammy Award, and savoring that fact akin to poking a bruise over and over and enjoying the feeling in a kinda micro-masochistic sort of way. Ha!

A note for the materialists: Since we are such cheaparses...Dessert Sessions exist in digital form for the time being. If you would really like to spend money on CDs and vinyl and Tshirts and official Dessert Sessions adult diapers, contact us by clicking somewhere on the right of the screen. You'll find it, yr smart. That way we can do it on a 'ear basis' as opposed to pressing 1000 copies of an album that will likely gather dust in some warehouse next to some dead guy tied to a chair that the mob just whacked.

about

Dessert Sessions Collective Ontario, California

This is not the Desert Sessions! This is a parody/tribute. You may dig it just as much though. It's still really trippy stuff to groove to, and is made in the same spirit of random friends coming together in different configurations, and improvising tunes, then releasing them. Enjoy. ... more
